Jonathan Dickinson State Park is a large state park just north of town along the Loxahatchee River, Florida's first federally designated Wild and Scenic River. The park has miles of hiking and biking trails through pine flatwoods and sand pine scrub, a campground, cabins, and a concession that rents kayaks and runs guided boat tours upriver toward Trapper Nelson's historic homestead.
It's the most substantial natural area near Jupiter, big enough for a half-day hike, a paddle, or an overnight camping trip, and different enough from the beach parks to make a good change of pace mid-visit.
Practical notes
- Unlike the town's beach and river parks, Jonathan Dickinson charges a per-vehicle entrance fee.
- Bring sun protection and water. Shade is limited in the more open, sandy sections of the trail network.
- Kayak and paddleboard rentals inside the park are convenient but tend to book up on weekends in season; reserving ahead is worthwhile.
