The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse is the town's defining landmark, a red brick tower standing on a natural coastal ridge overlooking where the Loxahatchee River meets the Atlantic. Completed in 1860, it's one of the oldest structures in Palm Beach County still in its original use, and it remains an active aid to navigation today.

Visiting

The lighthouse grounds are operated by the Loxahatchee River Historical Society, which runs a small museum at the base covering the area's Seminole, pioneer, and maritime history alongside the tower itself. Guided tower climbs are typically offered on a set schedule with a minimum age and health/mobility guidance, since the climb involves a steep spiral staircase. Worth checking current tour times and any age or height restrictions before planning a visit.

What's nearby

The surrounding grounds sit at the edge of the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area, with a short nature trail and views across the inlet toward DuBois Park. It pairs well with a stop at DuBois Park or Coral Cove Park, both a short drive away.

Practical notes

  • Admission and tower-climb tickets are separate from general museum-grounds access at many historic lighthouses of this type. Confirm current pricing and hours directly before visiting.
  • The tower climb is not stroller- or wheelchair-accessible; the museum and grounds are more accessible.
  • Photos from the top are one of the best vantage points in town, looking out over the inlet and the Atlantic.
