Boating & Watersports

Jupiter is built around its inlet and river: boating, kayaking, paddleboarding, surfing, and diving are all a short drive from anywhere in town.

With the Loxahatchee River, the Jupiter Inlet, and the open Atlantic all meeting in one small area, watersports are central to what people do in Jupiter.

Kayaking & paddleboarding

The Loxahatchee River (especially the stretch through Jonathan Dickinson State Park) is a popular flatwater paddling route, with outfitters renting kayaks and paddleboards by the hour or half-day and running guided trips upriver. Calmer inlet waters near DuBois Park are a gentler option for beginners.

Surfing

Jupiter's surf breaks near the inlet jetty are well known regionally, particularly during winter swells. Conditions vary a lot day to day. Check a local surf report before heading out, and be mindful of strong currents near the inlet itself.

Snorkeling & diving

The nearshore reef ledges off Coral Cove Park and Blue Heron Bridge (just south in Riviera Beach) are popular, easily accessible snorkel spots on calm days. Offshore, Jupiter is a well-regarded scuba destination for reef and wreck dives, with several dive shops in town running charters.

Boating

Jupiter has multiple public and marina boat ramps, and boat rentals are widely available for exploring the inlet, river, and nearby coastline. Boat traffic through the inlet can be heavy on weekends. Go slow and watch your wake near the no-wake zones.

Practical notes

  • Conditions (surf, current, water clarity) change quickly here. Always check a same-day report rather than relying on general seasonal expectations.
  • Life jackets are required for children under a certain age on all vessels in Florida waters. Confirm current state requirements before heading out.
